10 General Description:
11 This concurrent resolution of the Legislature and the Governor urges public and private
12 efforts to create a statewide winter sports tournament for high school students.
13 Highlighted Provisions:
14 This resolution:
15 ▸ recognizes the importance of increasing exposure and access to world-class winter
16 sports venues in the state for high school students;
17 ▸ expresses support for developing a culture of winter sports participation for high
18 school students;
19 ▸ recognizes the importance of winter sports to the culture of the state;
20 ▸ expresses the strong support of the Legislature for winter sports participation for
21 high school athletes; and
22 ▸ encourages public and private efforts to create a statewide winter sports tournament
23 for high school students.

27 Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah, the Governor concurring therein:
28 WHEREAS, winter sports are an important part of Utah's culture;
29 WHEREAS, there are located within the state world-class winter sports venues; and
30 WHEREAS, participation in sports is an important part of a high school student's
31 development and educational experience:
32 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah, the
33 Governor concurring therein, recognizes the importance of sports participation in the
34 development and experience of high school students.
35 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah and the
36 Governor recognize the need to increase access and exposure to winter sports and world-class
37 winter sports venues for high school students in the state.
38 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah and the
39 Governor express support for developing a culture of winter sports participation for high
40 school students in the state.
41 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah and the
42 Governor encourage public and private efforts to partner to create a statewide winter sports
43 tournament for high school students across the state that offers competitive events in winter
44 sports, including alpine skiing, cross country skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, speed skating,
45 curling, and hockey, and awards the winner of an event the title of state champion in that event.
