25 Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
26 Section 1. JR1-4-401 is enacted to read:

28 JR1-4-401. Legislative recommendations to temporarily fill a vacancy in office of
29 United States senator.
30 (1) If a vacancy occurs in the office of United States senator, the Legislature shall, in
31 accordance with this rule and Utah Code Subsection 20A-1-502(4), nominate three individuals,
32 one of whom the governor will appoint to temporarily fill the vacancy.
33 (2) The Legislative Management Committee shall:
34 (a) adopt a resolution proposing three or more names to the Legislature to consider for
35 nomination;
36 (b) determine which house of the Legislature will first consider the resolution; and
37 (c) assign a floor sponsor for the resolution in each house.
38 (3) The Legislature shall, by majority vote of each house, submit a final resolution,
39 containing the names of only three individuals, to the governor as the Legislature's nominees.
40 Contingent effective date.
41 This joint resolution takes effect on the day on which 2020 General Session, H.B. 17
42 passes and becomes law.
