9     LONG TITLE
10     General Description:
11          This joint resolution encourages health care training programs to provide training on the
12     delivery of culturally appropriate health care services to LGBTQIA+ individuals.
13     Highlighted Provisions:
14          This resolution:
15          ▸     describes the unique experiences and challenges of LGBTQIA+ individuals seeking
16     health care; and
17          ▸     encourages health care training programs in the state of Utah to provide training on
18     the delivery of culturally competent health care services to meet the unique health
19     care needs of LGBTQIA+ individuals.
20     Special Clauses:
21          None

23     Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
24          WHEREAS, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and asexual
25     individuals and individuals with other sexual identities (LGBTQIA+) are at a higher risk for
26     disparities in health outcomes and social resilience factors;
27          WHEREAS, LGBTQIA+ individuals experience discrimination which can lead to

28     delayed or absent medical care;
29          WHEREAS, there is currently a lack of training for medical professionals regarding the
30     unique health care needs of LGBTQIA+ individuals;
31          WHEREAS, LGBTQIA+ individuals face challenges in accessing culturally competent
32     health care services;
33          WHEREAS, the American Medical Association has launched the LGBTQ Fellowship
34     Commission, which will promote education to ensure that physicians are better equipped to
35     meet the unique health care needs of the LGBTQIA+ community; and
36          WHEREAS, increased access to culturally competent health care services will improve
37     health outcomes of Utah's LGBTQIA+ community:
38          NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah
39     encourages all health care training programs in the state of Utah to offer comprehensive
40     training on the delivery of culturally competent health care services that meet the unique health
41     care needs of LGBTQIA+ individuals.
