8     LONG TITLE
9     General Description:
10          This concurrent resolution creates the Danger Cave State Monument.
11     Highlighted Provisions:
12          This resolution:
13          ▸     outlines the general process for proposing the creation of the Danger Cave State
14     Monument;
15          ▸     includes reasons for creating the Danger Cave State Monument; and
16          ▸     approves the creation of the Danger Cave State Monument.

20     Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah, the Governor concurring therein:
21          WHEREAS, Utah Code Title 79, Chapter 4, Part 12, State Monuments Act, provides a
22     process for the creation of a state monument proposed by the Division of Parks and Recreation
23     within the Department of Natural Resources;
24          WHEREAS, the Division of Parks and Recreation proposed the creation of the Danger
25     Cave State Monument to the Natural Resources, Agriculture, and Environment Interim
26     Committee;
27          WHEREAS, the Division of Parks and Recreation found that:
28          (1) the property is owned and managed by the Division of Parks and Recreation;
29          (2) Danger Cave is one of the most important and renowned archaeological sites in

30     North America and was used to help set the timeline for Great Basin archaeology;
31          (3) archaeologists used some of the first radiocarbon dating techniques to test the age
32     of artifacts the archaeologists uncovered in Danger Cave and found that people had
33     successively occupied the site for over 11,000 years;
34          (4) Jukebox Cave should be included in the state monument cumulatively known as the
35     Danger Cave State Monument;
36          (5) Jukebox Cave served as a dance hall for troops posted at the Wendover Field and
37     Test Range;
38          (6) Jukebox Cave also contains artifacts showing occupation patterns similar to those
39     of Danger Cave; and
40          (7) Jukebox Cave contains unusual black pictographs that show people riding horses
41     and using weaponry;
42          WHEREAS, the Tooele County Commission by resolution expressed support for the
43     creation of the Danger Cave State Monument; and
44          WHEREAS, the Natural Resources, Agriculture, and Environment Interim Committee
45     recommends to the Legislature the creation of the Danger Cave State Monument:
46          NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah, the
47     Governor concurring therein, approves the creation of the Danger Cave State Monument
48     consisting of approximately 22 acres located in Township 1 South, Range 19 West, Sections 8
49     and 9, and described by a map on file with the Division of Parks and Recreation.
50          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Danger Cave State Monument is to be
51     managed in accordance with Utah Code Title 79, Chapter 4, Part 12, State Monuments Act.
52          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be delivered to the
53     Division of Parks and Recreation.
