7     LONG TITLE
8     General Description:
9          This concurrent resolution of the Legislature and the Governor expresses comfort with
10     the concepts and principles in the latest winter host agreement documents provided by
11     the International Olympic Committee and would support the state of Utah signing
12     similar host agreement documents for a future Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
13     Highlighted Provisions:
14          This resolution:
15          ▸     expresses comfort with the concepts and principles in the latest winter host
16     agreement documents provided by the International Olympic Committee; and
17          ▸     supports the state of Utah signing similar host agreement documents for a future
18     Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
19     Special Clauses:
20          None

22     Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah, the Governor concurring therein:
23          WHEREAS, as highlighted in previous resolutions, Utah values the experience of Salt
24     Lake City hosting the 2002 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, and the long-term
25     importance of sports and the Olympic legacy to Utah;
26          WHEREAS, Utah invests in sports with the Utah Sports Commission, the Utah
27     Olympic Legacy Foundation, and other key partners who are helping drive Utah's Olympic

28     legacy and sports activities by hosting major Olympic and non-Olympic sporting events,
29     training, and other activities at world-class venues throughout the state since the 2002 Games;
30          WHEREAS, Utah actively partners with and supports the mission and charter of the
31     United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee, the International Olympic Committee, and
32     many other partners who are helping Utah enhance Utah's sport and Olympic legacy;
33          WHEREAS, because of Utah's and Salt Lake City's excellence in hosting the 2002
34     Games and the hosting of many major national and international sporting events since 2002,
35     extraordinary sport and institutional knowledge exist in Utah;
36          WHEREAS, Utah continues to use and leverage significant 2002 Games infrastructure
37     and other infrastructure and assets, including sports, athletic, training, venues, transportation
38     improvements, sustainability and green initiatives, and other key related strategic activities;
39          WHEREAS, these infrastructure and assets that could be used for future Olympic and
40     Paralympic Winter Games are found throughout the state;
41          WHEREAS, due to the high level of Utah's Olympic legacy and ongoing sports efforts,
42     venues, and institutional knowledge, Utah is ready, willing, and able to host future Olympic
43     and Paralympic Winter Games; and
44          WHEREAS, as of 2019, the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee and the
45     International Olympic Committee now permit government entities other than a city to become
46     parties to host agreement documents:
47          NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah, the
48     Governor concurring therein, are comfortable with the concepts and principles in the latest
49     winter host agreement documents provided by the International Olympic Committee and would
50     support the state of Utah signing similar host agreement documents for a future Olympic and
51     Paralympic Winter Games.
52          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to the International
53     Olympic Committee, the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee, the Utah Sports
54     Commission, the Utah Olympic Legacy Foundation, the Governor's Office of Economic
55     Development, the Utah State Chamber of Commerce, and the members of Utah's congressional
56     delegation.
