8     LONG TITLE
9     General Description:
10          This concurrent resolution recognizes and honors the Utahns who selflessly gave their
11     lives in service during World War II.
12     Highlighted Provisions:
13          This bill:
14          ▸     establishes the importance and consequence of World War II in world history;
15          ▸     establishes the significant role Utahns played in the war; and
16          ▸      recognizes and honors the Utahns who selflessly gave their lives in service over the
17     course of the war.

23     Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah, the Governor concurring therein:
24          WHEREAS, World War II was a global conflict involving more than 30 countries
25     which lasted from 1939 to 1945, with major battles across Europe, the Pacific Ocean, and the
26     Middle East;
27          WHEREAS, the United States formally entered the war by joining the Allied Powers

28     after the surprise Japanese attack on the American fleet at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, on December
29     7, 1941;
30          WHEREAS, the entrance of the United States into the war proved vital for the victory
31     of the Allied Powers over the Axis Powers;
32          WHEREAS, those who served and fought in World War II were the vanguard against
33     the global tyranny and oppression envisioned by the Nazi regime and the other members of the
34     Axis Powers;
35          WHEREAS, the use of Fort Douglas and the establishment of Hill Air Force Base in
36     1940 assured that the state of Utah would play a pivotal role in the war effort;
37          WHEREAS, by the war's end, there were 62,107 Utahns in active military service; and
38          WHEREAS, it is estimated that over the course of the war, about 1,826 Utahns lost
39     their lives in service:
40          NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah, the
41     Governor concurring therein, recognizes and honors the Utahns who selflessly gave their lives
42     in service during World War II.
