8 General Description:
9 This joint resolution responds to the recommendations of the Legislative Compensation
10 Commission.
11 Highlighted Provisions:
12 This resolution:
13 ▸ recognizes the findings of the Legislative Compensation Commission; and
14 ▸ responds to the findings of the commission in relation to a recommended increase in
15 the daily salary rate for legislators.

19 Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
20 WHEREAS, on November 19, 2019, the Legislative Compensation Commission
21 presented its 2020 report, which contains the commission's bi-annual review of legislative
22 compensation and presents a list of findings that relate to that compensation and legislator's
23 salary for their service in elected office;
24 WHEREAS, the Legislative Compensation Commission's 2020 report recommended,
25 among other matters, that beginning with fiscal year 2020, the daily salary rate for legislators
26 increase from the current rate of $285 per day to $292 per day;
27 WHEREAS, the Legislature thanks the Legislative Compensation Commission for their
28 efforts; and
29 WHEREAS, in the interest of fiscal responsibility and consistent with budget cuts that
30 have been necessitated by the COVID-19 pandemic, it is best to forgo the recommended
31 increase in the daily salary rate for legislators:
32 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah,
33 according to the procedures of Utah Code Annotated Section 36-2-3, hereby elects to reject the
34 increase in the daily salary rate for legislators that was recommended by the Legislative
35 Compensation Commission's 2020 report.
