9 General Description:
10 This joint resolution approves the dissolution of the Smithfield City Justice Court.

17 Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
18 WHEREAS, the Smithfield City has had a justice court for many years;
19 WHEREAS, the Smithfield City has determined that it is no longer feasible for
20 Smithfield City to operate a justice court;
21 WHEREAS, with the dissolution of the Smithfield City Justice Court, the caseload
22 from the Smithfield City Justice Court will fall upon the First District Court in Cache County;
23 WHEREAS, the Smithfield City Council has given notice to the Utah Judicial Council
24 of the Smithfield City Council's intent to dissolve the Smithfield City Justice Court, effective
25 no later than April 1, 2021; and
26 WHEREAS, Section 78A-7-123 requires the Legislature to approve by joint resolution
27 the dissolution of a justice court:
28 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah
29 approves the dissolution of the Smithfield City Justice Court.
30 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to the Utah
31 Judicial Council and to Smithfield City.
32 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution takes effect upon approval by a
33 constitutional majority vote of all members of the House of Representatives and the Senate.
