8     LONG TITLE
9     General Description:
10          This resolution commemorates the opening of the new Salt Lake City International
11     Airport.
12     Highlighted Provisions:
13          This resolution:
14          ▸     recognizes the new Salt Lake City International Airport's financial and
15     environmental sustainability features; and
16          ▸     commemorates the opening of the first phases of the airport in 2020 and expresses
17     support for the completion of the second phase by 2025.
18     Special Clauses:
19          None

21     Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
22          WHEREAS, the first phases of the new Salt Lake City International Airport opened on
23     September 15, 2020, and October 27, 2020;
24          WHEREAS, the new Salt Lake City International Airport is the first new hub airport
25     built in the United States in the 21st century;
26          WHEREAS, no local tax dollars are being spent on the new Salt Lake City International
27     Airport and Salt Lake City's general fund revenue does not support the airport's operations;

28          WHEREAS, the Salt Lake City International Airport is financially self-sustaining
29     because the Salt Lake City Department of Airports is an enterprise fund of the Salt Lake City
30     Corporation; and
31          WHEREAS, the Salt Lake City International Airport is working to attain LEED Gold
32     Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council by connecting to public transit, using
33     water-efficient plumbing fixtures, purchasing off-site green power through Rocky Mountain
34     Power, procuring materials locally that contain recycled content, using certified wood,
35     diverting construction waste from landfills, converting airlines to electric ground support
36     equipment, expanding electric vehicle charging stations, and applying design features to
37     increase efficiency:
38          NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah
39     commemorates the opening of the first phases of the new Salt Lake City International Airport.
40          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature expresses support for the
41     completion of the second phase of the airport by 2025.
