8     LONG TITLE
9     General Description:
10          This concurrent resolution recognizes Utah's athletes that participated in the 2020
11     Tokyo Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games and emphasizes support for Utah's
12     athletes participating in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games.
13     Highlighted Provisions:
14          This resolution:
15          ▸     recognizes Utah's ongoing commitment to the ideals and values of the Olympic
16     Games;
17          ▸     recognizes the athletes and coaches from Utah that participated in the 2020 Tokyo
18     Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games;
19          ▸     emphasizes support for Utah's athletes participating in the 2022 Beijing Winter
20     Olympic and Paralympic Games; and
21          ▸     supports future generations of Utahns aspiring to be Olympians.

25     Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah, the Governor concurring therein:
26          WHEREAS, for over 100 years, the Olympic movement has built a better and more
27     peaceful world by educating young people through athletics, bringing together athletes from

28     many countries in friendly competition, and forging new relationships bound by friendship,
29     solidarity, sportsmanship, and fair play;
30          WHEREAS, the nation takes pride in the commitment to excellence, grace under
31     pressure, and good will toward other competitors exhibited by the athletes of the United States
32     Olympic Team;
33          WHEREAS, Utah's Olympic legacy is globally regarded with the 2002 Salt Lake City
34     Winter Olympic Ĥ→ [
Games] ←Ĥ and Paralympic Ĥ→ [Winter] ←Ĥ Games widely recognized as
34a     a tremendous
35     success;
36          WHEREAS, Utah welcomed 2,500 athletes representing 77 nations and proudly
37     watched the United States win 34 medals at the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Games;
38          WHEREAS, Utah remains a global cultivator of champions in sport with three
39     designated official United States Olympic Training Sites: Soldier Hollow Nordic Center, Utah
40     Olympic Oval, and Utah Olympic Park;
41          WHEREAS, Utah continued the Olympic tradition of celebrating athletes and sports by
42     sending 41 athletes and coaches to the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games
43     who are Utah natives or have Utah ties to compete for Team U.S.A. or another country;
44          WHEREAS, Utah's delegation to the United States Olympic Team at the 2020 Tokyo
45     Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games included athletes competing in long-held sports,
46     including gymnastics, volleyball, basketball, and triathlon, as well as sports making an
47     Olympic debut, including sport climbing;
48          WHEREAS, Utah currently has a delegation of athletes competing in the 2022 Beijing
49     Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, representing the state of Utah in a wide array of
50     sports, including speed skating, Ĥ→ figure skating, ←Ĥ alpine skiing, Ĥ→ [

51          NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah, the
52     Governor concurring therein, supports and recognizes the profound contribution to the ideals
53     and values of the Olympic movement made by the athletes who are from Utah or have Utah
54     ties and competed at the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games.
55          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature and Governor emphasize support
56     for the Olympic athletes who are from Utah or have Utah ties and are currently competing in
57     the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games.
58          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature and Governor strongly support each

59     former and current Utah Olympic athlete and the athlete's contribution to the ideals and values
60     of the Olympic games and impact on Utah's young athletes aspiring to one day represent Utah
61     and the United States Olympic Team.
62          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to Utah's 2020
