15 General Description:
16 This bill addresses reporting of information regarding student participation in school
17 athletics categorized by gender.
18 Highlighted Provisions:
19 This bill:
20 ▸ defines terms;
21 ▸ requires certain schools to report information regarding student participation in
22 interscholastic sports available to students enrolled at the school;
23 ▸ requires certain schools to include in the school's report information regarding an
24 action plan that the school creates to address a discrepancy in participation in
25 gender-designated interscholastic sports; and
26 ▸ requires a local governing board to review the report in a public board meeting.

35 Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
36 Section 1. Section 53G-6-901 is enacted to read:
37 53G-6-901. Report -- Action plan.
38 (1) As used in this section:
39 (a) "Gender-designated interscholastic sport" means a sport that is specifically
40 designated for female or male students.
41 (b) "Interscholastic sport" means an activity in which a student represents the student's
42 school in the sport in competition against another school.
43 (c) "School" means a public school that sponsors or offers an interscholastic sport in
44 which students enrolled at the school may participate.
45 (d) "Title IX" means Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, 20 U.S.C. Sec.
46 1681 et seq.
47 (2) Before the beginning of each academic year, the athletic director or another
48 administrator of each school shall report to the school's local governing board regarding:
49 (a) the number and type of interscholastic sports available at the school, categorized by
50 gender designation;
51 (b) the number of students competing in a gender-designated interscholastic sport at the
52 school, categorized by gender;
53 (c) the amount of spending that the school devotes to each gender-designated sport,
54 reported in total amount and on a per-student basis;
55 (d) a comparison and evaluation of designated practice and game locations in
56 gender-designated interscholastic sports;
57 (e) any information regarding the school's efforts in Title IX compliance; and
58 (f) if there is a discrepancy between male-designated and female-designated sports of
59 10% or greater, an action plan that the school develops to address the discrepancy.
60 (3) An LEA governing board that receives the report described in Subsection (2) shall
61 review the report in a public board meeting.
