7     LONG TITLE
8     General Description:
9          This bill allows for air rifle hunting under certain circumstances.
10     Highlighted Provisions:
11          This bill:
12          ▸     defines terms;
13          ▸     requires an individual to obtain a permit to hunt with a pre-charged pneumatic air
14     rifle;
15          ▸     directs the Wildlife Board to designate the species that may be hunted; and
16          ▸     requires a review and report regarding funding of the regulation of the use of
17     pre-charged pneumatic air rifles.

26     Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
27          Section 1. Section 23-19-49 is enacted to read:
28          23-19-49. Air rifle hunting.

29          (1) As used in this section:
30          (a) "Division" means the Division of Wildlife Resources.
31          (b) "Pre-charged pneumatic air rifle" means a rifle that fires a single projectile with
32     compressed air released from a chamber:
33          (i) built into the rifle; and
34          (ii) pressurized at a minimum of 2,000 pounds per square inch from an external high
35     compression device or source, such as a hand pump, compressor, or scuba tank.
36          (2) (a) An individual shall obtain a permit issued under this section before using a
37     pre-charged pneumatic air rifle to hunt a species of wildlife designated by the Wildlife Board.
38          (b) The Wildlife Board shall by rule, made in accordance with Title 63G, Chapter 3,
39     Utah Administrative Rulemaking Act, designate which species of wildlife may be hunted with
40     the use of a pre-charged pneumatic air rifle.
41          (3) The division shall review the funding available for the regulation of hunting with
42     pre-charged pneumatic air rifles and report the division's findings to the Natural Resources,
43     Agriculture, and Environment Interim Committee by no later than the November 2024 interim
44     committee meeting.
