7     LONG TITLE
8     General Description:
9          This rules resolution modifies Senate rules related to news media.
10     Highlighted Provisions:
11          This resolution:
12          ▸     addresses the circumstances under which news media may access certain areas of
13     the Senate; and
14          ▸     requires the committee chair's permission before news media may enter the area
15     behind the dais in a committee room.

25     Be it resolved by the Senate of the state of Utah:
26          Section 1. SR1-10-101 is enacted to read:

CHAPTER 10. NEWS MEDIA

28          SR1-10-101. News media access -- Senate chamber and designated Senate areas.

29          (1) News media may access non-public areas of the Senate, including the chamber,
30     floor, halls, lounge, and committee rooms, if the news media:
31          (a) have permission from the Senate media designee;
32          (b) hold a Utah Capitol media credential; and
33          (c) comply with the Senate's media access and credentialing policy, SR2-4-102, and
34     SR2-4-103.
35          (2) When, with permission of the Senate media designee, news media enter a
36     designated, non-public area of the Senate for the purpose of conducting a specific interview, a
37     senator or the Senate media designee shall:
38          (a) accompany the news media while in the designated area; and
39          (b) after the news media complete the specific interview, ensure that the news media
40     promptly exit the designated area.
41          (3) News media that do not hold a Utah Capitol media credential may not access
42     non-public areas of the Senate, except under extraordinary circumstances and with the
43     permission of the Senate media designee.
44          Section 2. SR1-10-102 is enacted to read:
45          SR1-10-102. News media access -- Senate committees.
46          When present for a meeting of a Senate standing committee, a Senate confirmation
47     committee meeting, or any other special committee of the Senate, news media may not enter
48     the area behind the dais without the permission of the committee chair.
49          Section 3. Repealer.
50          This resolution repeals:
51          SR2-4-105, News media.
