7     LONG TITLE
8     General Description:
9          This bill provides for an annual statewide elected official summit.
10     Highlighted Provisions:
11          This bill:
12          ▸     requires the Legislature to host an annual summit to educate and train legislators
13     and local elected officials in Utah; and
14          ▸     describes the training and education that may be provided at the summit.
15     Money Appropriated in this Bill:
16          This bill appropriates in fiscal year 2024:
17          ▸     to the Legislature - House of Representatives - Administration, as an ongoing
18     appropriation:
19               •     from the General Fund, $75,000; and
20          ▸     to the Legislature - Senate - Administration, as an ongoing appropriation:
21               •     from the General Fund, $75,000.

28     Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
29          Section 1. Section 36-34-101 is enacted to read:

Part 1. Statewide Elected Official Summit

32          36-34-101. Statewide elected official summit.
33          (1) Beginning no later than 2024, the Legislature, under the direction of the speaker of
34     the House of Representatives and the president of the Senate, shall host an annual summit for
35     elected officials in Utah.
36          (2) The purpose of the summit is to provide education and training to legislators and
37     local elected officials, including:
38          (a) legal requirements for elected officials;
39          (b) professional development, leadership, management, and other skills related to
40     functioning as an elected official;
41          (c) issues facing the state or local jurisdictions and the role of state and local elected
42     officials in responding to both state and local issues;
43          (d) taxation, revenue, appropriation, and budgeting in relation to the state and local
44     jurisdictions; and
45          (e) other education and training as the speaker of the House of Representatives and the
46     president of the Senate may direct.
47          Section 2. Appropriation.
48          The following sums of money are appropriated for the fiscal year beginning July 1,
49     2023, and ending June 30, 2024. These are additions to amounts previously appropriated for
50     fiscal year 2024. Under the terms and conditions of Title 63J, Chapter 1, Budgetary Procedures
51     Act, the Legislature appropriates the following sums of money from the funds or accounts
52     indicated for the use and support of the government of the state of Utah.
