37     LONG TITLE
38     General Description:
39          This joint resolution of the Legislature proposes to amend the Utah Constitution to
40     provide the position and term of county sheriff.
41     Highlighted Provisions:
42          This resolution proposes to amend the Utah Constitution to:
43          ▸     establish, in the constitution, the office and term of a county sheriff.
44     Special Clauses:
45          This resolution directs the lieutenant governor to submit this proposal to voters.
46          This resolution provides a contingent effective date of January 1, 2025 for this proposal.

48     ENACTS:
49          ARTICLE XI, SECTION 10

51     Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah, two-thirds of all members elected to each
52     of the two houses voting in favor thereof:
53          Section 1. It is proposed to enact Utah Constitution Article XI, Section 10, to read:
54          Article XI, Section 10. [Election of County Sheriffs.]
55          (1) Each county shall have an office of county sheriff.
56          (2) The office of county sheriff is an elected office.
57          (3) Their term of office shall be four years from the first day of January next after their
58     election.
59          Section 2. Submittal to voters.

60          The lieutenant governor is directed to submit this proposed amendment to the voters of
61     the state at the next regular general election in the manner provided by law.
62          Section 3. Contingent effective date.
63          If the amendment proposed by this joint resolution is approved by a majority of those
64     voting on it at the next regular general election, the amendment shall take effect on January 1,
65     2025.
