7     LONG TITLE
8     General Description:
9          This bill creates a Utah Archaeological and Historic Sites Assistance Grant Program.
10     Highlighted Provisions:
11          This bill:
12          ▸     appropriates funds; and
13          ▸     addresses expenditures from the grant program.
14     Money Appropriated in this Bill:
15          This bill appropriates for fiscal year 2024:
16          ▸     to Department of Cultural and Community Engagement - Archaeological and
17     Historic Sites Grant as a one-time appropriation:
18               •     from the General Fund $500,000.

25     Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:

26          Section 1. Section 9-8-906 is enacted to read:
27          9-8-906. Utah Archaeological and Historic Sites Grant Program.
28          (1) The office shall:
29          (a) administer the money contained in the grant program; and
30          (b) select qualified recipients in accordance with Subsection (2).
31          (2) The office may distribute the money from the grant program to a private landowner:
32          (a) that applies to the office, in a manner prescribed by the office, to receive all or part
33     of the money contained in the grant program; and
34          (b) for identifying and protecting archaeological resources on the landowner's property,
35     if the private landowner contributes an amount of money equal to or greater than the amount of
36     money the landowner receives from the grant program.
37          Section 2. Appropriation.
38          The following sums of money are appropriated for the fiscal year beginning July 1,
39     2023, and ending June 30, 2024. These are additions to amounts previously appropriated for
40     fiscal year 2023. The Legislature has reviewed the following expendable funds. The Legislature
41     authorizes the State Division of Finance to transfer amounts between the following funds or
42     accounts as indicated. Outlays and expenditures from the funds or accounts to which the money
43     is transferred may be made without further legislative action, in accordance with statutory
44     provisions relating to the funds or accounts.
