UTAH VETERANS CEMETERY GRANT SUBMISSION

8     LONG TITLE
9     General Description:
10          This resolution encourages the Utah Department of Veterans and Military Affairs to
11     submit a grant application for assistance in the construction of a new veterans cemetery.
12     Highlighted Provisions:
13          This resolution:
14          ▸     honors all who have served in the United States Armed Forces;
15          ▸     recognizes that many of Utah's veterans live north of Salt Lake County; and
16          ▸     encourages and supports the submission of a grant application to the Veterans
17     Cemetery Grant Program.
18     Special Clauses:
19          None

21     Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah, the Governor concurring therein:
22          WHEREAS, Utah honors and is proud of all who have worn the uniform of our great
23     nation while serving in the United States Armed Forces;
24          WHEREAS, Utah is home to almost 150,000 military veterans;
25          WHEREAS, there is one state-owned veterans cemetery in Utah under the oversight of

26     the Utah Department of Veterans and Military Affairs providing a final resting place for
27     veterans;
28          WHEREAS, the current veterans cemetery is located in Bluffdale at the Salt Lake and
29     Utah County line;
30          WHEREAS, less than 10% of interments at the Veterans Cemetery are north of Salt
31     Lake County;
32          WHEREAS, counties north of Salt Lake County are home to over 41,000 veterans; and
33          WHEREAS, the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, through the National
34     Cemetery Administration, participates with states in the construction of state-owned veterans
35     cemeteries by way of the Veterans Cemetery Grant Program:
36          NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah, the
37     Governor concurring therein, supports the Utah Department of Veterans and Military Affairs in
38     applying for a grant to assist in the construction of a new veterans cemetery at a location north
39     of Salt Lake County.
40          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah and the
41     Governor encourage the Utah Department of Veterans and Military Affairs to submit a grant
42     application to the United States Department of Veterans Affairs for participation in the
43     Veterans Cemetery Grant Program.
