7     LONG TITLE
8     General Description:
9          This bill addresses communications with an elected official's employer.
10     Highlighted Provisions:
11          This bill:
12          ▸     prohibits a person from communicating with an elected official's employer with the
13     intent to influence, coerce, or intimidate the elected official's action on a vote or
14     another official act; and
15          ▸     makes conforming changes.

24     Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
25          Section 1. Section 36-11-302 is amended to read:

26          36-11-302. Improper influence -- Communication with an elected official's
27     employer prohibited.
28          [A person may not seek to influence the vote of any legislator through communication
29     with the legislator's employer.]
30          (1) As used in this section:
31          (a) "Elected official" means:
32          (i) a member of the Legislature;
33          (ii) a member of the legislative body of a local government;
34          (iii) a member of a board of education; or
35          (iv) the mayor of a city, town, or metro township.
36          (b) "Elected official" includes a person who is appointed to fill a vacancy in the office
37     of an elected official described in Subsection (1)(a).
38          (2) A person may not communicate with an elected official's employer with the intent
39     to influence, coerce, or intimidate the elected official's action on a vote or another official act.
40          Section 2. Effective date.
41          This bill takes effect on May 1, 2024.
