7     LONG TITLE
8     General Description:
9          This bill amends provisions of the Talent Ready Utah Program.
10     Highlighted Provisions:

22     Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
23          Section 1. Section 53B-16-401 is amended to read:
24          53B-16-401. Definitions.
25          As used in this part:
26          (1) (a) "Cooperating employer" means a public or private entity which, as part of a
27     work experience and career exploration program offered through an institution of higher
28     education, provides interns with training and work experience in activities related to the entity's
29     ongoing business activities.
30          (b) "Cooperating employer" also means an institution of higher education that provides
31     the work experience segment of an intern's work experience and career exploration program.
32          (2) "Institution of higher education" means any:
33          (a) component of the state system of higher education, as defined under Section
34     53B-1-102, that is authorized by the board to offer internship programs[,]; and
35          (b) [any] private institution of higher education which offers internship programs under
36     this part.
37          (3) "Intern" means a student enrolled in a work experience and career exploration
38     program under Section 53B-16-402:
39          (a) [that is sponsored by] that an institution of higher education[,] sponsors;
40          (b) [involving] that involves both classroom instruction and work experience with a
41     cooperating employer[,]; and
42          (c) [regardless of whether the student receives compensation] for which the student
43     receives no compensation.
44          (4) "Internship" means the work experience segment of an intern's work experience and
45     career exploration program that:
46          (a) [sponsored by] an institution of higher education[,] sponsors under a written
47     agreement with a cooperating employer; and
48          (b) [performed] an intern performs under the direct supervision of a cooperating
49     employer.
50          Section 2. Effective date.
51          This bill takes effect on May 1, 2024.
