8 General Description:
9 This joint resolution of the Legislature addresses the problem of illegal immigration.
10 Highlighted Provisions:
11 This resolution:
12 ▸ describes problems that illegal immigration causes for the state;
13 ▸ condemns the federal government for its failure to respond appropriately to the
14 illegal immigration crisis;
15 ▸ expresses the Legislature's support of legal immigration;
16 ▸ urges the federal government to solve the problem of illegal immigration or allow
17 states to solve problems caused by illegal immigration; and
18 ▸ urges Congress to pass federal legislation relating to immigration.

22 Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
23 WHEREAS, illegal immigration at the southern United States border is a crisis that the
24 federal government has failed to resolve;
25 WHEREAS, illegal immigration is costing Utah taxpayers over $931,000,000 per year,
26 or over $900 per Utah household per year;
27 WHEREAS, an estimated 137,000 illegal aliens live in Utah;
28 WHEREAS, an unchecked flow of illegal aliens into the state will impose an even
29 higher financial burden on the state and its taxpayers than previously;
30 WHEREAS, drugs flow through the southern United States border at an unprecedented
31 rate, and crime and rape run rampant at the southern United States border;
32 WHEREAS, families are separated when they are incentivized to come illegally into the
33 United States; and
34 WHEREAS, pending before Congress is H.R. 2 - Secure the Border Act of 2023:
35 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah
36 condemns the federal government for not responding appropriately to the crisis of illegal
37 immigration.
38 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature supports legal immigration and
39 urges the federal government to find a solution to the problem and, if not, to let the states,
40 including Utah, find solutions themselves to issues caused by illegal immigration.
41 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature urges Congress to support and pass
42 H.R. 2 - Secure the Border Act of 2023, currently pending before Congress.
