7     LONG TITLE
8     General Description:
9           This bill removes the penalty for failure to sign or display a vehicle registration card .
10     Highlighted Provisions:
11          This bill:
12          ▸      removes the requirement for an individual to sign a vehicle registration card;
13          ▸     removes the requirement, but encourages an individual, to carry a vehicle
14     registration card;
15          ▸     removes the penalty for failure to sign or display a vehicle registration card; and
16          ▸     makes technical changes.

25     Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
26          Section 1. Section 41-1a-214 is amended to read:
27          41-1a-214. Registration card to be exhibited.
28          [(1) A registration card shall be signed by the owner in ink in the space provided.]

29          [(2) A registration card shall be carried at all times in the vehicle to which it was
30     issued.]
31          [(3) The person driving or in control of a vehicle shall display the registration card
32     upon demand of a peace officer or any officer or employee of the division.]
33          (1) For the convenience of a peace officer or any officer or employee of the division,
34     the owner or operator of a vehicle is encouraged to carry the registration card in the vehicle for
35     which the registration card was issued and display the registration card upon request.
36          [(4)] (2) For a vehicle owned by a rental company, as defined in Section 31A-22-311, a
37     person driving or in control of the vehicle may display the vehicle's rental agreement, as
38     defined in Section 31A-22-311, in place of a registration card [for compliance with Subsection
39     (3)].
40          [(5) A violation of this section is an infraction.]
