Agency: Southern Utah University

Line Item: Shakespeare Festival

Function

Founded in 1961, the Utah Shakespeare Festival is committed to entertain, enrich, and educate audiences of Shakespeare and other master dramatists. In 2000, the Shakespeare Festival received the Tony Award for outstanding regional theater.

Background

Each summer and early fall, the Sheakespeare Festival produces three of Shakespeare's plays in addition to several other plays. The plays are performed in the Adams Shakespearean Theatre, an open-air theater similar to the Globe Theatre or in the Randall L. Jones Theatre.

The quality of the Festival's productions has made Cedar City a summer destination and provided economic development to the region.
