Dear Friends and Colleagues,
 

Our new report released today finds that African Americans are highly concentrated in majors related to human services and community organization occupations. African Americans: College Majors and Earnings, reveals that African Americans are underrepresented in the number of degree holders in college majors with the fastest-growing, highest-paying occupationsSTEM, health and business.

 

African-American students account for 7 percent of STEM majors.
Architecture and engineering is the major group with the highest median earnings ($66,206) for African Americans with a Bachelor’s degree.
The highest detailed major among African Americans is pharmacy, pharmaceutical sciences and administration with median earnings at $84,000.
African Americans who major in human services and community organization (20%) have the second lowest-median earnings at $38,000.
