My colleague Brad Peterson at the Utah Office of Outdoor Recreation sleuthed out information recently from Utah’s first Outdoor Recreation Plan, written in 1965. Those bold prognosticators had a grand vision: "With proper consideration of the potential, there is every possibility that tourism can be developed into Utah’s principal industry." Flash forward. UOT assembled an evaluation committee comprised of several of our industry partners and together reviewed 12 bid solicitations which were submitted for these four contracts. | | | | | | China Sales Mission | | | | Utah Life Elevated brand tours China | | | | | | | | In terms of individual outbound travel markets, the traditional "Big Three" — Germany, the U.S. and the U.K. — are now being challenged strongly in the rankings. Germany (+2 percent), the U.S. (+1 percent) and the U.K. (+3 percent), grew moderately this year. However, China continued its dramatic growth with a 26 percent rise in outbound trips last year into the United States and is now No. 1 for total spending, No. 2 for the volume of trips and No. 4 for the quantity of overnight stays.
China is expected to increase a total of 3.2 million visitors, or 219 percent through 2018, and produce the second-largest number of additional visitors behind Canada. see the details | |

| | Deepening Collaboration | | | | | | UOT's Rourism effort to help drive rural economic development | | | | | | Rourism is an effort to build a universal program targeted specifically at helping address economic development in rural Utah through the development of tourism resources well beyond the Wasatch Front and The Mighty 5® national parks. The Utah Office of Tourism, Film and Global Branding (UOT) has chosen four pilot counties, Box Elder, Daggett, Emery, and Kane, to help UOT build the program.
To better advance Rourism initiatives, UOT has strengthened strategic partnerships with Brad Petersen, director of the Utah Office of Outdoor Recreation, Delynn Fielding, director of Rural Development, and Nan Andersen, executive director of the Utah Tourism Industry Association. This group has been visiting the counties to discuss what the counties would like to accomplish, barriers to their success, and their unique offerings.
