A new poll shows that Mitt Romney is still the favored candidate of Iowa caucus-goers but without him in the mix, it's a fairly wide-open race for the 2016 presidential contest. The poll's 2nd place goes to Dr. Ben Carson, a political newcomer, and other possible contenders -- Rand Paul, Chris Christie, Ted Cruz, Rick Perry -- are grasping to get a foothold in the first test of the Republican primaries. ->Financial analysts have calculated that the possible effect of Ebola on the global economy may end up costing as much as $32.6 billion by the end of 2015. [NYTimes]

-> According to a report by the World Health Organization, the mortality rated in West Africa has risen to 70 percent and there could be as many as 10,000 new cases of Ebola by December. [WaPost][NYTimes][WSJ]
