Representative McKell, Our focus is life, liberty, and property. The first of those is, of course, the most important. And that's why we've been working on a legislative proposal to better protect the lives of all Utahns (police officers and citizens) when forcible entry warrants are being served—where the potential for destruction of property, physical harm, and even death are significant. The result is House Bill 70, sponsored by Rep. Marc Roberts and carried in the Senate by Senator Luz Robles. Several other legislators in both parties have already expressed support for the text we've drafted. We are very encouraged by the discussions we've had this far; every legislator with whom we've spoken about this topic has agreed that a discussion on this issue is needed in Utah. We hope to see our language adopted, of course, and look forward to the opportunity to address your questions and concerns. See you next week! In liberty, Libertas Institute |
