Letter to the President: Deadline Extended to Friday, January 10

Dear Rural Advocates

The deadline for Representatives to sign onto Rep. Hinojosa's (D-TX) letter to the President, asking that Rural Development be a higher priority in the upcoming FY 2015 budget, has been extended to Friday, January 10th.

Please call your Representatives this week and ask them to sign onto Rep. Hinojosa's letter to President Obama and USDA!

Over the past several years, USDA has proposed drastic cuts to Rural Development programs, including critical Rural Housing and Water/Wastewater programs. In fact, since 2010, the Administration has proposed to cut these programs by over $700 million! At the same time, the need for more affordable housing and basic services in rural and small town communities continues to grow. 

So far, Reps. Brown (D-FL), Blumenauer (D-OR), Bonamici (D-OR), Christenson (D-VI), Enyart (D-IL), DeFazio (D-OR), Grijalva (D-TX), Kilmer (D-WA), McIntyre (D-NC), Ryan (D-OH), Vargas (D-CA), and Vela (D-TX) have joined Rep. Hinojosa!

Earlier this year, the following Representatives--excluding those who have already signed on to the Hinojosa letter--wrote to the Appropriations Committee in support of greater funding for Rural Development programs. These individuals are good targets for the letter:
