I thought you might find the John Stossel following article informative:

Please support efforts to stop the implementation of common core in Utah.  As Stossel notes the program fails to acknowledge these students enter a diverse and tailored-to-the-individual market and the notion that Common Core is voluntary is only so in a "Big Government version" of reality.
