5    AN ACT RELATING TO PUBLIC EDUCATION; PROVIDING FOR FIREARM INJURY
6    PREVENTION INSTRUCTION IN PUBLIC ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS.
7    This act affects sections of Utah Code Annotated 1953 as follows:
8    REPEALS AND REENACTS:
9         53A-13-106, as enacted by Chapter 86, Laws of Utah 1994
10    Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
11        Section 1. Section 53A-13-106 is repealed and reenacted to read:
12         53A-13-106. Instruction in firearm safety.
13        (1) School districts may offer firearm safety instruction to students in grades kindergarten
14    through four to teach them that in order to avoid injury when they find a firearm they should:
15        (a) not touch it;
16        (b) tell an adult about finding the firearm and its location; and
17        (c) be able to share the instruction provided in Subsections (a) and (b) with any other
18    minors who are with them when they find a firearm.
19        (2) In providing instruction under Subsection (1), school districts are encouraged to use:
20        (a) existing firearm safety education materials, which may be available at little or no cost;
21    and:
22        (b) school teachers or certified volunteers.
