MINING RECLAMATION AMENDMENTS

5 AN ACT RELATING TO APPROPRIATIONS; APPROPRIATING $500,000 FROM THE
6 GENERAL FUND FOR FISCAL YEAR 1997-98 FOR THE SAFEGUARDING OF
7 ABANDONED MINES; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
8 This act enacts uncodified material.
9 Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
10 Section 1. Appropriation.
11 (1) (a) There is appropriated from the General Fund for fiscal year 1997-98 $500,000 to
12 the Division of Oil, Gas and Mining for the safeguarding of abandoned mines.
13 (b) The money shall be used to safeguard mines within the following areas:
14 (i) the Oquirrh Mountains, including the Five Mile Pass, Stockton (Rush Valley), Mercur,
15 West Mercur, and Ophir mining districts;
16 (ii) Parley's Canyon north to Ogden, including the City Creek, Farmington, Hardscrabble,
17 Morgan, Mountain Green, and Argenta mining districts; and
18 (iii) the Deep Creek Mountain's Gold Hill mining district.
19 (c) The money may be used for:
20 (i) inventorying;
21 (ii) identifying landowners;
22 (iii) environmental clearances; and
23 (iv) safeguarding mines from human entry.
24 (2) The money appropriated in Subsection (1) is nonlapsing.
25 Section 2. Effective date.
26 This act takes effect on July 1, 1997.
