5    AN ACT RELATING TO THE CODE OF CRIMINAL PROCEDURE; ALLOWING THE
6    SENTENCE AFTER A GUILTY PLEA TO BE TO A LESSER OFFENSE WITH THE
7    STIPULATION OF THE PROSECUTION AND THE APPROVAL OF THE COURT.
8    This act affects sections of Utah Code Annotated 1953 as follows:
9    ENACTS:
10         77-13-1.5, Utah Code Annotated 1953
11    Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
12        Section 1. Section 77-13-1.5 is enacted to read:
13         77-13-1.5. Pleas to lesser offenses.
14        Except for crimes requiring mandatory jail or imprisonment, a defendant may, with the
15    stipulation of the prosecution and the approval of the court, enter a plea of guilty to a crime and
16    be sentenced to a penalty one degree lower than that prescribed by statute.
