31    A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION OF THE LEGISLATURE AND THE GOVERNOR
32    RECOGNIZING AND PAYING TRIBUTE TO REPRESENTATIVE KURT E. OSCARSON
33    FOR HIS LASTING INFLUENCE ON THE UTAH HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, THE
34    CITIZENS OF HIS DISTRICT, AND THE STATE OF UTAH; AND HONORING HIS LIFE

1    OF DEDICATION TO EDUCATION IN THE STATE.
2    Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah, the Governor concurring therein:
3        WHEREAS Kurt E. Oscarson was born in Richfield, Utah, and grew up in Marysvale,
4    where he learned the value of hard work, self-reliance, and public service;
5        WHEREAS his bachelors and masters degrees from Brigham Young University prepared
6    him for a lifetime of teaching and positively influencing the students of the Jordan School District;
7        WHEREAS Kurt was diligent in his church responsibilities, serving a mission for the LDS
8    church and filling numerous leadership positions through the years;
9        WHEREAS Representative Kurt E. Oscarson served with honor and distinction as a
10    member of the Utah House of Representatives for ten years;
11        WHEREAS Kurt enjoyed uncommon regard from both democratic and republican
12    colleagues, and was named House Minority Whip of the 52nd Legislature by his fellow
13    Democrats;
14        WHEREAS as representative of District 48 in Sandy, Kurt took genuine interest in the
15    concerns of his constituents, and was willing to be educated on the issues they brought to him;
16        WHEREAS not only did Kurt make teaching his profession, he also worked tirelessly as
17    a legislator to improve the quality of education throughout the state;
18        WHEREAS Kurt's efforts in education distinguished him as a tireless and determined
19    advocate who did not blink when facing enormous challenge;
20        WHEREAS Kurt's hero was his father, John E. Oscarson, and throughout his life Kurt
21    endeavored to follow in his footsteps and honor his name;
22        WHEREAS Kurt possessed a rare mixture of grit, good cheer, and unpretentiousness which
23    left a lasting impression on those who knew him;
24        WHEREAS no labor was too great, no goal too lofty, no adversity too awesome, no child
25    too young to merit his best struggle to make a difference; and
26        WHEREAS the tenor and measure of Kurt's life of service and success echoes
27    Shakespeare: "Small time, but in that small most greatly lived":
28        NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah, the
29    Governor concurring therein, recognize the great and lasting influence of Representative Kurt E.
30    Oscarson on the House of Representatives and its members who were honored to associate with
31    him, his constituents, and the citizens of Utah whom he served with single-minded resolve and

2        BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature and the Governor express heartfelt

5    for Kurt's life of service, felt most keenly through his commitment to teaching and education in
6    the state.
