A JOINT RESOLUTION OF THE LEGISLATURE REQUESTING THE DEPARTMENT OF
NATURAL RESOURCES TO CONDUCT A FEASIBILITY STUDY ON THE
ESTABLISHMENT OF ROBERT REDFORD'S SUNDANCE PROPERTY AS A
WILDERNESS AREA.
Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
WHEREAS the designation of wilderness has long been an issue of great controversy in
Utah, and Robert Redford has long been a champion of preserving land in the state as wilderness;
WHEREAS the Sundance property, located on the east side of Mount Timpanogas and
owned by Mr. Redford, provides an ideal setting for a wilderness area;
WHEREAS designating the property as wilderness would be in keeping with Mr.
Redford's well-known regard for the preservation of Utah's natural beauty, observed most recently
in his vocal support of the Grand Staircase National Monument designation; and
WHEREAS working with Mr. Redford toward constructing a means to accomplish this
type of wilderness designation would meet goals shared by him and many citizens of the state
concerned about wilderness in Utah:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah request
that the Utah Department of Natural Resources conduct a feasibility study on the designation of
Robert Redford's Sundance property as wilderness.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be sent to the Department of
Natural Resources and Robert Redford.
