APPROPRIATION FOR BIOTECH PROGRAM
AT UTAH STATE UNIVERSITY
1997 GENERAL SESSION

AN ACT RELATING TO HIGHER EDUCATION; PROVIDING A $250,000
APPROPRIATION TO UTAH STATE UNIVERSITY TO BE USED BY THE
BIOTECHNOLOGY CENTER TO CARRY OUT AGRICULTURAL
BIOTECHNOLOGY RESEARCH PROJECTS TO ENHANCE THE STATE'S
AGRICULTURAL INDUSTRIES; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
This act enacts uncodified material.
Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
Section 1. Appropriation.
(1) There is appropriated from the General Fund for fiscal year 1997-98, $250,000 to Utah
State University for the Biotechnology Center located in the Utah Experiment Station for the
purpose of carrying out agricultural biotechnology research projects to enhance the state's
agricultural industries.
(2) The Biotechnology Center shall use the appropriation to :
(a) fund projects in agricultural biotechnology;
(b) provide educational career and technical information training;
(c) offer outreach services in research techniques and procedures to researchers,
governmental agencies, and extension agents;
(d) develop and transfer data and technology to industry, educational institutions, and the
public; and
(e) purchase equipment.
Section 2. Effective date.
This act takes effect on July 1, 1997.
