7    APPROPRIATION TO CONTINUE THE UTAH PASTURE AND FORAGE INITIATIVE,
8    A RESEARCH AND EDUCATION PROJECT DESIGNED TO IMPROVE OPEN SPACES
9    AND TO ASSIST LIVESTOCK PRODUCERS TO IMPROVE IRRIGATED PASTURE
10    PRODUCTION; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
11    This act enacts uncodified material.
12    Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
13        Section 1. Appropriation.
14        (1) There is appropriated from the General Fund for fiscal year 1998-99, S [$250,000]
14a     $225,000 s to Utah
15    State University to be used by the Utah Agricultural Experiment Station as matching funds for a
16    federal grant to continue the Utah Pasture and Forage Initiative, a research and education project
17    designed to improve open spaces and to assist livestock producers to improve irrigated pasture
18    production.
19        (2) The university shall use the appropriation under the initiative for concurrent research
20    and education projects for livestock production on irrigated pastures appropriate to the needs and
21    conditions faced by Utah agricultural producers.
22        (3) (a) For fiscal year 1999-2000 and for each fiscal year thereafter, the State Board of
23    Regents shall include a requested line item appropriation to fund the Utah Pasture and Forage
24    Initiative.
25        (b) The appropriation requests shall continue for only as long as matching funds are made
