6    A JOINT RESOLUTION OF THE LEGISLATURE ENCOURAGING THE APPOINTMENT
7    OF A REPRESENTATIVE OF THE UTAH SKI ASSOCIATION TO THE SALT LAKE
8    ORGANIZING COMMITTEE FOR THE OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES OF 2002.
9    Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
10        WHEREAS the Olympic Winter Games of 2002 will be one of the most important civic,
11    social, and sporting events in the history of the state;
12        WHEREAS skiing events are some of the most popular competitions held during the
13    Olympic Winter Games;
14        WHEREAS the ski industry in the state is a vital part of the state's economy;
15        WHEREAS the Olympic Winter Games of 2002 will have a significant long-term impact
16    on the ski industry in the state by showcasing to the world the excellent skiing opportunities,
17    enhancing skiing facilities at several resorts, and increasing interest in Utah as a skiing destination;
18        WHEREAS careful long-term planning related to the involvement of and impacts on the
19    ski industry in the state is crucial leading up to and during the Olympic Winter Games of 2002;
20    and
21        WHEREAS a representative of the ski industry would bring to the Olympic Winter Games
22    of 2002 planning process, unique experience, and perspective that would enhance the overall
23    preparation for hosting the Olympic Winter Games of 2002:
24        NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature supports the appointment
25    of a representative of the Utah Ski Association to the Salt Lake Olympic Committee for the
26    Olympic Winter Games of 2002 to help ensure that the long-term health of the ski industry is
27    sustained and the benefits to the industry of hosting the Olympic Winter Games of 2002 are


1    maximized.
