APPROPRIATION FOR ENGINEERING AND
2 PREENGINEERING PROGRAM
3 1998 GENERAL SESSION
4 STATE OF UTAH

6 AN ACT RELATING TO HIGHER EDUCATION; PROVIDING A $1,000,000
7 APPROPRIATION TO STRENGTHEN THE STATEWIDE INTEGRATION OF
8 ENGINEERING AND PREENGINEERING PROGRAMS AT THE STATE'S NINE
9 INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER EDUCATION; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
10 This act enacts uncodified material.
11 Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
12 Section 1. Appropriation.
13 (1) There is appropriated from the General Fund for fiscal year 1998-99, $1,000,000 to the
14 State Board of Regents to strengthen the statewide integration of engineering and preengineering
15 education programs at the state's nine institutions of higher education.
16 (2) One-half of the appropriation is for base-budget funding of the programs and one-half
17 of the appropriation is one-time funding to be distributed to the institutions on that basis.
18 (3) The board shall distribute:
19 (a) $280,000 to the University of Utah;
20 (b) $190,000 to Utah State University;
21 (c) $130,000 to Weber State University;
22 (d) $100,000 to Salt Lake Community College;
23 (e) $100,000 to Utah Valley State College;
24 (f) $50,000 to the College of Eastern Utah;
25 (g) $50,000 to Dixie College;
26 (h) $50,000 to Snow College; and
27 (i) $50,000 to Southern Utah University.

1 (3) It is the intent of the Legislature that the money appropriated for base-budget funding
2 be an ongoing appropriation.
3 Section 2. Effective date.
4 This act takes effect on July 1, 1998.
