             6      AN ACT RELATING TO PUBLIC EDUCATION; PROVIDING THAT EDUCATORS
             7      PARTICIPATE IN PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES IN ACCORDANCE
             8      WITH RULES ADOPTED BY THE STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION IN ORDER TO
             9      MAINTAIN THEIR STANDARD CERTIFICATES.
             10      This act affects sections of Utah Code Annotated 1953 as follows:
             11      AMENDS:
             12          53A-6-102, as enacted by Chapter 2, Laws of Utah 1988
             13      Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
             14          Section 1. Section 53A-6-102 is amended to read:
             15           53A-6-102. Standard certificates -- Period of validity.
             16          (1) Unless revoked for cause by the State Board of Education, [an initial] a standard
             17      certificate is valid if the certificate holder verifies, in accordance with rules of the board,
             18      participation in professional development activities and at least three years of educational
             19      employment [of at least three years] during each succeeding five-year interval.
             20          (2) The board shall establish minimum requirements for recertification of persons who are
             21      unable to qualify under Subsection (1).
