             6      AN ACT RELATING TO INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES; PROVIDING A $300,000
             7      APPROPRIATION TO THE STATE OFFICE OF REHABILITATION TO PURCHASE
             8      ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY DEVICES AND SERVICES UNDER RULES MADE BY THE
             9      STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
             10      This act affects sections of Utah Code Annotated 1953 as follows:
             11      AMENDS:
             12          53A-24-110.7, as enacted by Chapter 403, Laws of Utah 1998
             13      Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
             14          Section 1. Section 53A-24-110.7 is amended to read:
             15           53A-24-110.7. Appropriation for assistive technology devices and services.
             16          (1) (a) [There] Except as provided in H.B. 4, Appropriations Coordination Act, there is
             17      appropriated from the Uniform School Fund for fiscal year [1998-99, $200,000] 1999-2000,
             18      $150,000 and from the General Fund for fiscal year [1998-99, $200,000] 1999-2000, $150,000 to
             19      the State Board of Education to be distributed to the State Office of Rehabilitation to purchase
             20      assistive technology devices and services in accordance with rules [adopted] made by the State
             21      Board of Education.
             22          (b) [One-half of each $200,000] The money appropriated under Subsection (1)(a) is for
             23      base budget funding [and one-half of each appropriation is one-time funding].
             24          (2) The office shall use the appropriation to provide:
             25          (a) assistance to individuals with disabilities in acquiring, customizing, and learning to use
             26      and maintain assistive technology to facilitate their independence; and
             27          (b) support through [the] Independent Living Centers and other similar programs to


             28      facilitate interagency cooperation in providing assistive technology devices and services.
             29          Section 2. Effective date.
             30          This act takes effect on July 1, 1999.
