APPROPRIATION FOR WINNERS OF HISTORY CONTESTS

                  AN ACT RELATING TO PUBLIC SCHOOLS; PROVIDING A $7,500 APPROPRIATION TO
                  THE STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION TO HELP PAY THE EXPENSES OF STUDENTS
                  WHO PARTICIPATE IN AND WIN HISTORY CONTESTS HELD AT THE STATE LEVEL;
                  AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
                  This act enacts uncodified material.
                  Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
                      Section 1. Appropriation.
                      (1) For fiscal year 2000-01 only, there is appropriated from the Uniform School Fund to
                  the State Board of Education $7,500 to help pay for up to 50% of the expenses for travel and
                  lodging incurred by students who:
                      (a) participate in; and
                      (b) win history contests or competitions held at the state level.
                      (2) In accordance with Title 63, Chapter 46a, Utah Administrative Rulemaking Act, the
                  State Board of Education may make rules regarding:
                      (a) what qualifies as a legitimate expense under Subsection (1); and
                      (b) the procedures students must follow to receive financial assistance under Subsection
                  (1).
                      Section 2. Effective date.
                      This act takes effect on July 1, 2000.
