             6      AN ACT RELATING TO CRIMINAL LAW; APPROPRIATING $200,000 FOR FISCAL YEAR
             7      2000-01 TO THE STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL TO BE USED TO FUND A PROSECUTOR
             8      AND AN INVESTIGATOR FOR CRIMES OCCURRING WITHIN POLYGAMOUS GROUPS;
             9      AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
             10      This act enacts uncodified material.
             11      Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
             12          Section 1. Appropriation to the state attorney general for a prosecutor and an
             13      investigator regarding crimes committed within polygamous groups.
             14          (1) For fiscal year 2000-01, there is appropriated from the General Fund to the Office of
             15      the Attorney General $200,000, to be used to fund one prosecutor and one investigator within the
             16      Office of the Attorney General. The focus of the prosecutor's and investigator's work shall be
             17      criminal offenses committed within polygamous communities, including:
             18          (a) incest;
             19          (b) sexual offenses, including sexual abuse, sexual assault, and offenses involving
             20      unlawful sexual conduct with a person younger than 18 years of age;
             21          (c) welfare fraud;
             22          (d) tax fraud; and
             23          (e) failure to pay child support.
             24          (2) The money appropriated under Subsection (1) is nonlapsing.
             25          Section 2. Effective date.
             26          This act takes effect on July 1, 2000.
