6 AN ACT RELATING TO PUBLIC SCHOOLS; PROVIDING A $9,000 APPROPRIATION TO
7 THE STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION TO HELP PAY THE EXPENSES OF STUDENTS
8 WHO PARTICIPATE IN AND WIN HISTORY OR SPELLING BEE CONTESTS HELD AT
9 THE STATE LEVEL; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
10 This act enacts uncodified material.
11 Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
12 Section 1. Appropriation.
13 (1) For fiscal year 2000-01 only, there is appropriated from the Uniform School Fund to
14 the State Board of Education $9,000 to help pay for up to 50% of the expenses for travel and
15 lodging incurred by students who:
16 (a) participate in; and
17 (b) win history or spelling bee contests or competitions held at the state level.
18 (2) In accordance with Title 63, Chapter 46a, Utah Administrative Rulemaking Act, the
19 State Board of Education may make rules regarding:
20 (a) what qualifies as a legitimate expense under Subsection (1); and
21 (b) the procedures students must follow to receive financial assistance under Subsection
22 (1).
23 Section 2. Effective date.
24 This act takes effect on July 1, 2000.
