SCHOOL TEACHER SALARY ENHANCEMENT

6 AN ACT RELATING TO PUBLIC SCHOOLS; REQUIRING A LOCAL SCHOOL BOARD TO
7 PROVIDE FOR ADDITIONAL COMPENSATION TO AN EDUCATOR WHO IS REQUIRED
8 TO TEACH A LARGE CLASS; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
9 This act affects sections of Utah Code Annotated 1953 as follows:
10 ENACTS:
11 53A-3-411.5, Utah Code Annotated 1953
12 Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
13 Section 1. Section 53A-3-411.5 is enacted to read:
14 53A-3-411.5. Additional compensation for teaching large classes.
15 (1) As used in this section:
16 (a) "Compensation" means the payment to an educator of $20 per student per month for
17 each student added to a class of 21 students.
18 (b) "Educator" means the term as defined in Section 53A-6-103 .
19 (c) "Large class" means a class in the state's public education system in grades
20 kindergarten through six that has more than 21 students.
21 (2) In negotiating contracts under Section 53A-3-411 , a local school board shall provide
22 for additional compensation to an educator who is required to teach a large class.
23 Section 2. Effective date.
24 This act takes effect on July 1, 2000.
