2000 GENERAL SESSION

STATE OF UTAH

Sponsor: Paula F. Julander

                  A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION OF THE LEGISLATURE AND THE GOVERNOR URGING
                  THE DIVISION OF FACILITIES CONSTRUCTION AND MANAGEMENT TO STUDY
                  WAYS TO RESUME STATE USE OF THE DEVEREAUX MANSION.
                  Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah, the Governor concurring therein:
                      WHEREAS, the Devereaux Mansion is located between 300 and 400 West South Temple
                  in Salt Lake City;
                      WHEREAS, the Devereaux Mansion is Utah's first mansion and stands as a symbol of the
                  rich history of the state of Utah and its people;
                      WHEREAS, in 1978, the Utah Legislature appropriated $750,000 to purchase the
                  Devereaux Mansion, restore the property, and designate it as an historic site;
                      WHEREAS, the 1978 legislation directed that the property be used to accommodate state
                  and public functions and purposes for the citizens of the state;
                      WHEREAS, currently a long-term lease agreement is in effect between the Division of
                  Facilities Construction and Management and Jones, Lang and LaSalle, owner representative of the
                  Triad properties, which does not expire until 2007;
                      WHEREAS, the Division of Facilities Construction and Management should consider ways
                  for the state to resume use of the Devereaux Mansion, thus allowing the property to fulfill the
                  purpose behind the state's purchase; and
                      WHEREAS, it is hoped that this effort will return the Devereaux Mansion to uses that serve
                  the needs of the state and its citizens:
                      NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah, the
                  Governor concurring therein, urge the Division of Facilities Construction and Management to
                  explore ways in which the Devereaux Mansion may be returned to state use and fulfill the purposes
                  for which the Utah Legislature originally purchased the property.
                      BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be sent to the Division of
                  Facilities Construction and Management and Jones, Lang and LaSalle, owner representative of the

                  Triad properties.
