5 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION OF THE LEGISLATURE AND THE GOVERNOR URGING
6 THE DIVISION OF FACILITIES CONSTRUCTION AND MANAGEMENT TO STUDY
7 WAYS TO RESUME STATE USE OF THE DEVEREAUX MANSION.
8 Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah, the Governor concurring therein:
9 WHEREAS, the Devereaux Mansion is located between 300 and 400 West South Temple
10 in Salt Lake City;
11 WHEREAS, the Devereaux Mansion is Utah's first mansion and stands as a symbol of the
12 rich history of the state of Utah and its people;
13 WHEREAS, in 1978 the Utah Legislature appropriated $750,000 to purchase the
14 Devereaux Mansion, restore the property, and designate it as an historic site;
15 WHEREAS, the 1978 legislation directed that the property be used to accommodate state
16 and public functions and purposes for the citizens of the state;
17 WHEREAS, currently a long-term lease agreement is in effect between the Division of
18 Facilities Construction and Management and Jones, Lang and LaSalle, owner representative of the
19 Triad properties, which does not expire until 2007;
20 WHEREAS, the Division of Facilities Construction and Management should consider ways
21 for the state to resume use of the Devereaux Mansion, thus allowing the property to fulfill the
22 purpose behind the state's purchase; and
23 WHEREAS, it is hoped that this effort will return the Devereaux Mansion to uses that
24 serve the needs of the state and its citizens:
25 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah, the
26 Governor concurring therein, urge the Division of Facilities Construction and Management to
27 explore ways in which the Devereaux Mansion may be returned to state use and fulfill the purposes
28 for which the Utah Legislature originally purchased the property.
29 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be sent to the Division of
30 Facilities Construction and Management and Jones, Lang and LaSalle, owner representative of the
31 Triad properties.
