Mr. Speaker:

    The Political Subdivisions Committee reports a favorable recommendation on H.B. 389, DEPUTY SHERIFFS MERIT SYSTEM AMENDMENTS, by Representative P. Buckner, with the following amendments:

1.    Page 1, Line 7:    At the beginning of line 7 delete "PROTECTED" and insert "APPEALED"

2.    Pages 1-2, Lines 27-29:    Delete lines 27 through 29 and insert:

        "(b) If an officer files a grievance, as defined by the commission, and exhausts all internal grievance procedures, if any, the officer may, within ten days after receiving notice of the final disposition of the grievance, file an appeal with the commission."

3.    Page 2, Line 32:    After "or" insert "appeal of the"

4.    Page 2, Line 35:    After "than" delete "20" and insert "30"
