This concurrent resolution of the Legislature and the Governor designates April 11, 2001 as
International Society Daughters of Utah Pioneers Day and recognizes the Centennial of the
International Society Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.
Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah, the Governor concurring therein:
WHEREAS, the International Society Daughters of the Utah Pioneers is celebrating its 100th
anniversary April 11, 2001;
WHEREAS, on April 11, 1901, 46 women, all descendants of the pioneers of 1847, met to
organize a group whose objectives were to strengthen the bonds of friendship and love among the
descendants of those who so faithfully braved the difficulties encountered in the founding of the territory;
WHEREAS, the group has become an international organization with members in almost every
state and in Canada;
WHEREAS, the International Society Daughters of Utah Pioneers is nonpolitical and
nonsectarian and was organized for historical, educational, and public purposes;
WHEREAS, the International Society Daughters of Utah Pioneers is dedicated to perpetuating
the names and achievements of those men, women, and children who founded Utah;
WHEREAS, the International Society Daughters of Utah Pioneers seeks to encompass a broad
scope of services ranging from preservation of historic landmarks to the education of thousands of school
children and other citizens about their pioneer forbears;
WHEREAS, the objectives of the International Society Daughters of Utah Pioneers are
accomplished by collecting pioneer artifacts, histories, maps, photographs, and manuscripts; providing
a repository for pioneer artifacts and an open storage research center; preserving historical landmarks;
publishing historical material relating to the pioneer period; marking historical places; and providing a
speaker's forum for community gatherings;
WHEREAS, the International Society Daughters of Utah Pioneers has over 85 museums in the
state of Utah and in other states;
WHEREAS, the International Society Daughters of Utah Pioneers has marked over 500
historical points of interest with plaques describing their historical significance;
WHEREAS, the International Society Daughters of Utah Pioneers has compiled over 100,000
pioneer histories and approximately 10,000 photographs; and
WHEREAS, the commitment of the International Society Daughters of Utah Pioneers to document
and preserve the history of Utah and its people will be remembered with gratitude and appreciation for
generations to come:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah, the Governor
concurring therein, designate April 11, 2001 as International Society Daughters of Utah Pioneers Day and
recognize the 100th anniversary of the founding of this great organization.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to the International Society
Daughters of Utah Pioneers.
