First Substitute H.J.R. 14

Representative Thomas V. Hatch proposes to substitute the following bill:

1 RESOLUTION SUPPORTING COUNTIES' EXPANSION
2 OF CORRECTIONAL FACILITIES
3 2001 GENERAL SESSION
4 STATE OF UTAH
5 Sponsor: Thomas V. Hatch
6 This joint resolution of the Legislature supports Beaver, Cache, Emery, and Millard
7 Counties' expansion of their correctional facility capacity by contracting with the Utah
8 Department of Corrections.
9 Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
10 WHEREAS, counties contract with the Department of Corrections to provide prison bed
11 space for state prisoners;
12 WHEREAS, this contracting arrangement has proven beneficial to both the state and
13 counties and saved the taxpayers from the burden of building new state correctional facilities while
14 at the same time assisting counties to meet their own correctional space needs; and
15 WHEREAS, contracting with the Utah Department of Corrections for additional prison bed
16 space would greatly assist the state and Beaver, Cache, Emery, and Millard Counties' efforts to
17 have sufficient capacity to house their prison populations:
18 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah supports
19 the Beaver County jail expansion as beneficial to both the state and Beaver, Cache, Emery, and
20 Millard Counties.
21 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to the Beaver, Cache,
22 Emery, and Millard County Commissions and the Utah Department of Corrections.
