RESOLUTION SUPPORTING PRESIDENT

             2
BUSH'S TAX RELIEF PROPOSAL

             3
2001 GENERAL SESSION

             4
STATE OF UTAH

             5
Sponsor: David Clark

             6      This joint resolution of the Legislature urges the United States Congress to support and
             7      work to pass the tax relief plan introduced by President Bush.
             8      Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
             9          WHEREAS, federal taxes from all sources are currently the highest ever during peacetime;
             10          WHEREAS, all taxpayers should be allowed to keep more of their own money;
             11          WHEREAS, one of the best ways to encourage economic growth is to cut marginal tax
             12      rates across all tax brackets;
             13          WHEREAS, under current tax law, low-income workers often pay the highest marginal
             14      rates and President Bush's tax cut would reduce the marginal tax rate by 40-50 percent for
             15      low-income families with children;
             16          WHEREAS, President Bush's tax relief plan will contribute to raising the standard of living
             17      for all Americans by reducing tax rates, expanding the child tax credit, and reducing the marriage
             18      penalty;
             19          WHEREAS, President Bush's tax relief plan will increase access to the middle class for
             20      hard working families, treat all middle class families more fairly, encourage entrepreneurship and
             21      growth, and promote charitable giving and education; and
             22          WHEREAS, under President Bush's tax relief plan, the largest percentage reductions will
             23      go to the lowest income earners:
             24          NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah urges
             25      the United States Congress to support and work to pass the tax relief plan introduced by President
             26      Bush.
             27          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to the President of the

             28      United States Senate, the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, and the members
             29      of Utah's congressional delegation.
