SEAT BELT REQUIREMENTS

5 This act modifies the Motor Vehicle Code by h [ amending ] repealing h an exception to seat belt
5a laws.
6 This act affects sections of Utah Code Annotated 1953 as follows:
7 AMENDS:
8 41-6-183, as last amended by Chapter 153, Laws of Utah 2000
9 Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
10 Section 1. Section 41-6-183 is amended to read:
11 41-6-183. Exceptions.
12 h [ (1) ] h This article does not apply to a driver or passenger of:
13 h [ (a) ] (1) h a motor vehicle manufactured before July 1, 1966;
14 h [ (b) ] (2) h a motor vehicle in which the driver or passengers possess a written verification
14a from
15 a licensed physician that the driver or passenger is unable to wear a safety belt for physical or
16 medical reasons; or
17 h [ (c) ] (3) h a motor vehicle or seating position which is not required to be equipped with a
17a safety
18 belt system under federal law.
19 h [ (2) This article does not apply to a passenger who is an immediate family member, as
20 defined in Section 76-5-106.5 , of the driver if all seating positions are occupied by other
21 passengers. ] h
